First passive litter trap in Indonesia!

In the bay of Ambon the first passive litter trap is taken into use. The trap is positioned in front of one of the river mouths and prevents floating litter from the river from entering the bay and sea.

Ambon is one of the islands in Indonesia that serious suffers from plastic pollution. Recycled Island Foundation works with its experience from Rotterdam on an integral solution.

Recycled Island Foundation is working together on this with also Rotterdam University and local organizations like Trash Hero Ambon, Lipi Research Centre and the Municipality of Ambon.

In Vietnam we are working with HZ University of Applied Sciences and Upp! UpCycling Plastic BV on a similar approach.

140m2 Recycled Park in Rotterdam

In the Rotterdam Rijnhaven we have already realized 25m2 floating park.

In the spring of 2018 we will open 140m2 of new floating landscape.

The realization of this prototype is in collaboration with the Rotterdam

Municipality and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment.

In Ambon Indonesia we’re studying the placement

Litter trap 1.3

In Rotterdam we continue to work on the optimization of our three litter traps. During the period of one year we’re monitoring and improving the functionality of our systems. At the end of this year we expect to conclude the pilot phase and to have found the most optimal form for litter retrieval.

Recycled Park is growing

10m2 floating park is added to previously placed 15m2. Now there are five building blocks floating in the Rotterdam Rijnhaven. The new blocks are also a new typology. The previous placed blocks have soil on top, where the vegetation is not in touch with the water of the harbor. The blocks have an open structure. The roots of the plants grow through the blocks. Underneath the blocks a wild root structure will grow, creating a place for shelter and food for organism in the water.
